Time of Year :

Holi comes in the month of March. It is celebrated on a full moon day of Phalgun Sud .

  Preparation for festival:

A special shopping spree must be arranged for the kids. Gulal made up of numerous colours such as pink, magenta, red, yellow, and green, along with abeers is bought. Abeer and gulal are an essential part of all holi.

  Puja and festival process:

It is done by lighting a bonefire of wood and cowdung which is erected in a conical shape over a small pit which is dug at the bottom. Such fires are lit on almost four roads of village and cities.

Elders predict the coming of monsoon on the basis of the direction in which the flag planted atop falls. Devotees offer coconut to the fire and the youth retrives them admist an applause of bystanders. It is one of the principle festival of Adivasis of Gujarat.

The second day after Holi is called Dhuleti or Dhuli Padvo. It means throwing of mud on one another. It is a meerymaking time as people of all age throw colours on each other and enjoy themselves.

In Gujarat it is more populary known as Prahlad, the son of the demon king Hiranyakashyap had emerged unhurt from the heap of fire in which he was made to sit in the lap of Holika, who got burnt instead.
