  Preparation for festival:

The preparation for the festival begins around one month before.The "Strings" for the kites are made. The patangs and "tukkals" are also prepared in different variety. The market is filled with different kinds of kites and tukkals.

 
       
  Importance of Festivals:

This festival is mainly celebrated with the intension of happiness.In olden times kites were used as a means of communication between the people.There is a international kite festival that is held in Ahmedabad. People from all round come here and enjoy themselves.

 
     
     
 

Puja and festival process:

On this day the house is cleaned and the terrace is open for all. Young and the old enjoy themseleves forgetting everything. There is happiness all around. On this day special food is made at homes.

 
 
     
 

History:

In 200 B.C. Huan Thang of China flew a kite at night to overawe the army of the Han dynasty. From 100 B.C to A.D. 500 kites were used for sending signals and to measure the distance of the enemy camps. By A.D 930, the Japanese mentioned "Shiroshi", meaning paper bird for the first time, Between A.D 960 and 1126, kite-flying became more popular sport in China. The 9th day of 9th month was the day when the kites were flown to banish evil. In the Indian literature the kites were mentioned as "Madhumati" by Manzan, and were called "patang" which the world still used today.
