BLACKENED, OVER ripe bananas can be quickly and easily made into delicious fritters. Mash three over ripe bananas, add one beaten egg, two tablespoons milk, two tablespoons sugar, a pinch of baking powder and half a cup of flour to get a batter of 'pakora' consistency. Mix well and drop spoonfuls into hot oil, fry till golden brown.

DO NOT discard old, thick, metallic or plastic bangles. Wrap coloured cloth over them, and put a magnet on one side and stick it on the fridge. Or make curtain holders by stitching lace or satin over them.

TO KEEP coffee powder fresh and free flowing, store it in the fridge.

TO CLEAN the inside of a flask, drop in bits of newspaper and pour some warm water over it. Shake it gently for a few minutes. Drain the soggy newspaper and you will have yourself a clean, sparkling flask. 

APPLY MASHED boiled potato over any burnt skin for a fast recovery. 

SPRINKLE BAKING powder or talcum powder on your gold chain if it gets knotted up.

MASSAGE YOUR lips with unboiled milk to make them soft.

In order to keep your paintings new and shining rub them off with bread. They will shine as if they are new.

IMMERSE LEMONS, raw bananas, raw jackfruit, drumsticks, 'parwar' and lotus roots in water to retain freshness.



TO REMOVE rust stains from cotton clothes, soak the stained portion in day old rice water.

IF YOU have burnt your tongue while drinking a hot liquid, rub the affected area with sugar. The burning sensation will stop.

WHEN YOU don't have the time to replace the worn out pressure cooker gasket, make a stopgap version by tightly winding a rubber band around the handles to stop steam from escaping.

IF YOUR mats and carpets look faded, rub them with a mixture of warm water and turpentine and watch the colors glow again.

PUT A few drops of lavender oil in half a bucket of water for the final rinse. Your bedsheets will come out smelling fragrant.

STOVE BURNERS can be easily cleaned by passing a threaded needle through each hole.

TO REMOVE ink stains, apply salt to the affected area and wipe off with a damp cloth.

TO ENHANCE the taste of 'upma', add curd or tamarind water instead of plain water.

WIPE YOUR kitchen platform with a cloth dipped in vinegar to keep ants away.

TO CLEAN Venetian blinds, wipe between the slates wearing an old sock.
